Rebecca has always had a love for horses. She began riding when she was 8 years old and over the
years has been fortunate enough to train with many top FEI and Olympic riders. Rebecca has had the
opportunity to ride many wonderful horses, all of whom have contributed to her education as a rider,
trainer and coach.
Dressage became a serious passion at the age of 15 when she was given a unique opportunity to
lease a Lusitano gelding named Gratzy. She trained & competed him to Medium level under the
guidance of Sharon Merkel-Beattie. Rebecca then purchased her lovely mare Maya in 1997 shortly
after finishing high school. Rebecca spent time as a working student at Sharon’s Windhaven
Farm & then a year as a working student for another Alberta dressage trainer.
In the spring of 2002, Rebecca returned to live and work in the Red Deer area and has boarded &
trained at Burnt Lake Stables ever since. She continued her dressage training with Dagmar Fortmuller
and Henk Glijn. Both inspired her to continue working towards her dream of competing at the FEI
levels with Maya. Rebecca now trains with Crystal Kroetch of Calgary. Crystal hopes to compete for
Canada at the next Pan American Games!
Rebecca has won many ribbons on Maya & they have a very special bond!! Rebecca has a strong
affinity for mares and enjoys working with their unique personalities. In 2008, Rebecca & Maya
were both awarded Dressage Canada’s Silver medals at 4th Level. Rebecca & Maya were also
invited to Showcase Dressage at the Mane Event in both 2007 & 2008. Although Rebecca continues
to ride and train competitive dressage, she also finds time to coach a group of dedicated students,
some of whom have ridden with Rebecca for many years now. She likes working with both adult
amateur and junior riders as well as beginners. She takes personal pride in watching her students
become better riders, successful competitors, and most of all creating a bond with their horses.
Rebecca is an NCCP Level 1 Coach & intends on working towards her EC Level 2 Coaching
Certificate in the near future.
